Chemair’s Commitment to Safety:
Excellence in Aviation
At Chemair, safety isn't just a policy—it’s our top priority. With over 2,000 flight hours annually, ninety percent at low levels, we operate with zero accidents or incidents with over 55,000+ combined flight hours. Our commitment to safety goes beyond industry standards, setting us apart from other aviation providers.
What Makes Chemair a Leader in Safety?
Elite Pilot Training
We exceed FAA requirements, incorporating advanced GPS, XM weather, Foreflight, and autopilot training. Our 2025 Safety Objective ensures autorotation and instrument recovery training every six months added to our FAA Part 135 program.
Specialized Wire Environment Training
Every three years since 2012, we host an industry-leading "Flying in the Wire Environment and Crew Resource Management" course by aviation expert Bob Feerst, Utilities Aviation Specialists. This essential training, endorsed by the Vertical Association International, enhances operational safety in wire-dense areas.
Company-Wide Safety Engagement
We hold bi-weekly safety calls, analyzing hazards, trends, reviewing maintenance, and distributing insights companywide. Safety isn’t just a checklist—it’s an on-going conversation.
Fully Integrated Safety Management System (SMS)
As part of the same ownership group, Chemair Helicopters Inc. and Brainerd Helicopter Services Inc. joined forces in 2015 to participate in the FAA SMS Voluntary Program (SMSVP), further solidifying our commitment to excellence. Our dedication paid off—on February 2, 2022, the FAA officially recognized Brainerd Helicopter Services' SMS as fully compliant with the program’s rigorous standards. By March 2024, this certification expanded to include Chemair Helicopters and ABTEC Helicopters, reinforcing our seamless, integrated approach to safety culture. All companies undergo annual FAA inspections to ensure compliance with evolving safety standards.
Proactive Risk Management
Our Safety Risk Management (SRM) process exceeds FAA guidelines, applying risk assessments to daily operations, new procedures, new equipment, and hazard identification. Since 2015, we’ve conducted over 5,700 flight risk assessments.
Annual Nationwide Safety Summit
Every year, all employees across the U.S. gather for an intensive safety week, reviewing reports, emergency response plans, and engaging in hands-on safety drills like our “Mock Aircraft Down” exercise. We invite FAA representatives, insurers, and industry experts to continuously refine our processes.
With a proven track record, cutting-edge training, and a culture of continuous improvement, Chemair sets the gold standard in aviation safety. When it comes to safety, we believe in full transparency and accountability.
